Personal Statement: Why Journalism?

My love for journalism stemmed from my love of sports.

When I was young, I would remember big plays and important moments from sports games, but I realized that the play-by-play calls of those moments are just as important, and influential, as the moments themselves.

I’ll never forget hearing Chris Cuthbert say, “Sidney Crosby! The golden goal! And Canada has once-in-a-lifetime Olympic gold!”

No one will forget hearing Joe Buck say, “…and the Cubs have won it all!”

Now, my passion and appreciation for journalism has only grown stronger. Social media is definitely my go-to tool for accessing and gathering news. Twitter is my main source for reading news, and I enjoy having the freedom to interact with people through Twitter.

Making the decision to attend Humber College to study and pursue journalism is one of the best decisions I’ve made, and I’ll never forget the notification of acceptance.
